History

 Contribution: Humayun Qureshi

I am also a DCET graduate of first batch electroncs 1968. The first Principal
was Wg Cdr (R) M.I. Malik who came over freshly retired from running a PAF
academy. He therefore ran the college accordingly for a few years. There was
full uniform, late comers were fined, refectory(cafetaria) had tea served as
self service for which students deposited the money in a box on their own (to
teach us ethics). Blazer and tie was worn every Friday at a 1 hr formal
session in lecture hall on various topics including Islamic topics. Attendance
was taken at the begining of the class and absentee name slip hung outside the
door on a hook which was collected by the admin person walking around to all
classrooms. There were no labs so we went to SPIT Landhi for Elect MAchines,
Karachi Polytechnic for Electronics, PCSIR for Chem/Strength of Materials, etc.

R.K.Malik was not agreeing to some of the instructions of Seth Ahmed Dawood,
so he was fired and then there was a big uproar. College was closed for
months, then M A Latif, who had been hired by R.K.Malik, was appointed second
principal. After second batch in 1969, there was a gap of  3 years.
Trip down memory lane is over
